A Manifesto to Unlock the Power of the Accounting Profession
As fellow members of the accounting industry, we are writing this to share a significant opportunity with you: the chance to serve your local communities as agents for positive, societal transformation. And, the timing couldn’t be better.
As many of you are aware, our profession is standing in the middle of “a perfect storm.” We are at a point where many “emerging” technologies are reaching operational readiness. And, as we continue to feel the impact of technology on our profession, we are also in the midst generations of senior leaders, in industry, firms, and in academia, preparing for retirement.
The Perfect Storm Provides the Perfect Opportunity
From the perspective of the profession, what’s incredible about this moment is that we have the opportunity to make a huge difference in our society! As a member of one of the most critical professions to serve entrepreneurs, investors, and the greater ecosystem of business, we can leverage our influence on — and perhaps obligation to — this fundamental backbone of our local economies…the success of small businesses and mindful business practices by larger enterprises.
The question is this: Will you continue to stand witness, a bystander to your own profession and apathetic to the opportunity at hand, or are you prepared to step forward and be a part of the solution?
If you want to be a part of positive change, then the confluence of factors above is providing you with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to nurture the seeds of innovation within your business, firm, and with your clients and customers. And, you have the ability to do so leveraging a new blueprint for the future of our profession.
It's time to unlock the power of the accounting profession
The accounting profession is in the middle of what we are calling “a perfect storm.” Emerging technologies are at operational readiness and generations of accounting leaders in every field are preparing for retirement. Because accountants are members of the most critical profession serving entrepreneurs, investors, and the greater ecosystem of business, nonprofits, and government, we are at what I believe is the nexus for societal transformation.
Accountants should seize the opportunity and nurture the seeds of transformation. Further, as committed members of the accounting profession, it is in our calling to do so in collaboration with the next generation of business, technology, and nonprofit leaders.
