Following a Different Game Plan
In this bonus ARC episode, CPA Vince LoRusso discusses his journey from PWC audit to gamified learning.
In a special bonus episode of the Accounting ARC podcast, host Donny Shimamoto, CPA.CITP, CGMA, introduces Vince LoRusso, a seasoned CPA with a unique blend of traditional and innovative accounting roles. LoRusso’s career path offers valuable insights into the evolving landscape of accounting, emphasizing the importance of adaptability and continuous learning.
LoRusso began his career with PwC, spending three years in audit before transitioning to more dynamic roles in the tech sector. His experience in audit provided a strong foundation, equipping him with both technical and soft skills. “The few years of audit propelled me to apply my accounting and audit knowledge to various projects,” LoRusso explains. His work now focuses on private equity and venture-backed companies, helping them streamline their accounting processes and prepare for growth.
Beyond his traditional accounting roles, LoRusso is the founder of True Up, a company dedicated to creating gamified learning experiences for accountants. His interest in Adobe products and digital media led him to develop interactive learning modules that combine accounting principles with engaging simulations. Over the past six years, True Up has produced around 50 learning games, covering topics from technical accounting to leadership skills.
LoRusso acknowledges the challenges of keeping up with rapid technological changes. “The pace of change is my kryptonite,” he admits, but readies back with, “Being chronically curious and excited about learning new things is my superpower.”
