Hawaii’s Shimamoto Named to Forbes 2026 Best-in-State CPA List

International leader continues to elevate Hawaii’s presence in the global accounting profession.
Honolulu, HI — Hawaii-based CPA and business advisor Donny C. Shimamoto, CPA.CITP, CGMA, has been named to the Forbes 2026 Best-in-State CPA list, adding to a series of national recognitions that highlight his ongoing impact on the accounting profession.
Shimamoto, founder and managing director of IntrapriseTechKnowlogies LLC and founder and inspiration architect of the Center for Accounting Transformation, is widely recognized for his leadership in helping organizations across the world navigate change, adopt new technologies, and strengthen long-term resilience.
This latest honor builds on a distinguished track record of recognition, including being named to the Accounting Today Top 100 Most Influential People and to CPA Practice Advisor’s Top Thought Leaders list multiple times for over a decade. He had also already been named to the Forbes Top 200 CPAs in America last year.
“This kind of recognition is about more than just me. I wanted to show the world that Hawaii has great schools and talent, and that you don’t have to be from a big city or graduate from an Ivy League school to drive innovation and leadership internationally,” Shimamoto said. “We in Hawaii have an opportunity to not just participate, but to lead the shaping the future of the accounting profession worldwide.”
A graduate of Aiea High School and the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, Shimamoto began his career with Coopers & Lybrand LLP before founding IntrapriseTechKnowlogies in 2001. His firm has since supported organizations across industries, including government, nonprofit, small business, and enterprise environments.
“For years, he has guided CPA firms, inspired students to pursue the profession, and championed IT innovation that continues to move our industry forward
Shimamoto was the first Certified Information Technology Professional (CPA.CITP) in Hawaii and remains one of only four professionals in the state with that designation—highlighting his specialized expertise in bridging business and technology.
He has also been deeply involved in professional leadership at both the state and national levels. A longtime member of the Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants, Shimamoto previously served on its board of directors and chairs its Technology Advocacy Committee. He is also a past recipient of the HSCPA President’s Award. Nationally, his leadership roles with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants have helped shape guidance and strategy around emerging technologies, IT audit & risk management, and the future of the profession. Additionally, he has received the Standing Ovation Award in Information Management & Technology Assurance and the Maximo Mukalebai Award for Outstanding Service to the CPA Profession from the AICPA.
Kathy Castillo, the executive director for the Hawaii Society of CPAs, said, “Donny’s legacy within the HSCPA is one defined by passion, service, and excellence. Being named one of Hawaii’s best CPAs is just one reflection of the impact he has made.”
“For years, he has guided CPA firms, inspired students to pursue the profession, and championed IT innovation that continues to move our industry forward,” she added. “His long-standing service to the HSCPA and other organizations demonstrates a deep commitment to strengthening the accounting community.”
Beyond his firm, Shimamoto is leading a broader movement through the Center for Accounting Transformation, an initiative focused on equipping business professionals with the tools and insights needed to drive innovation, improve business outcomes, and better serve their communities.
His continued recognition underscores Hawaii’s growing influence in the national accounting landscape and highlights the critical role local leaders play in advancing the profession.
