Dr. Samuel Kim

Psychologist, Professor

Dr. Samuel Y. Kim breakdowns the many layers of mental health, namely for Asian and Korean American groups. He teaches evidence-based practices and shares insights from the latest research studies in easy-to-understand ways to educate audiences on how to live healthier lives.


Background

Dr. Sam was born in Columbus, GA to first-generation Korean American parents, who immigrated to the US in their 20s. He is currently an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Denver and a licensed psychologist.

Dr. Sam’s approach to mental health is grounded in Social Cognitive Theory, and he uses Cognitive-Behavioral approaches. He is licensed and certified to provide psychological and tele-psychological services in over 25 states, and currently provides counseling services through Line Counseling.

He teaches, or has taught, graduate students in counseling, interventions, and psychological assessment. In addition to his public talks, Dr. Sam has a podcast where he and his co-host talk about research on mental health and Asian Americans so that anyone can stay on top of the latest research.

In his leisure time, he loves to consume science fiction and fantasy, such as Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
